Math

In order to meet the future needs of students in a changing era, the Math program has as its primary goal the development of mathematical power by each student. Mathematical power denotes an individual's ability to creatively explore, reason, and analyze, as well as use a variety of mathematical methods effectively to solve a wide range of problems.

The Math program actively involves students in exploring, investigating, discussing, and questioning mathematics. In constructing and modifying ideas, students will integrate existing knowledge through interacting with the physical world, materials, and others. This may be accomplished through discussions, use of manipulative materials, appropriate technology, ongoing application of concepts, and utilization of computational skills.

A hands-on approach to Math instruction will help foster a better problem solver, communicator, and mathematical reasoner.

Math content will be integrated throughout the elementary curriculum. It includes number sense, geometry, measurement, operations and computation, patterns and relationships, and probability and statistics.
