Writing

Writing is an integral part of the Language Arts curriculum. Similar strategies are used in both Reading and Writing. By connecting the two processes, students will learn to do both more effectively.

Writing instruction will teach the writing process, use pre-writing activities based on inquiry, apply criteria, give rules for correctness within the context of writing in addition to formal grammar instruction, and engage students in both individual and group writing.

By incorporating all modes of writing, students will write for a variety of purposes and different audiences. Teachers will be facilitators in the classroom where students are actively engaged in learning the writing process.

Language Skills

Mechanics and grammar will be taught functionally within the context of the writing process in addition to formal grammar instruction.
